Some movies are so bad that I have to tell y’all about them. I watched the new Reagan movie and it’s not just a hagiography, as in a sanctified biography, but a turgid mess filled with more conspiracism and mythology than I could possibly have expected. It’s slow, boring, and just plain wrong. For the devout of Ronald Reagan’s myth, they may make a pilgrimage to see this film, but they’ll just get fed the same regurgitated nonsense they already believe. As such, there is something to be learned from this. We can peer into the warped worldview of those who worship at the altar of Reagan and see just how much they’ve deluded themselves in order to keep the faith. A concern for history demands that we take a more nuanced and ambiguous look at the man himself before ripping into this film.
