My treatment isn’t working | living with multiple sclerosis | RRMS

Описание: So I’ve been on my MS treatment (Tecfidera) for 6 months and did my scans to check for any activity that may have happened. Unfortunately, the treatment isn’t strong enough for me. I have another lesion on the right side of my brain and it’s terrifying to know how active my MS is. The Tecfidera was working in some way and I didn’t have any relapses over the 6 month period which is obviously great that it was doing something. But as you can see in the video, I am gutted that I got this news. I am going to move up to infusions over the next few months. Infusions are the strongest treatment for MS but that also means my immune system will be brought down even further so I’ll be more vulnerable/susceptible to infections.

The next step is to do more blood tests prior to starting and one of the most important tests is for the JC virus. The JC virus remains dormant in our CNS if we’ve come in contact with it as kids. There’s a risk of the JC virus activating if your lymphocytes drop too low which can lead to PML. I have the option of going on Tysabri or Ocrevus. But my blood results may dictate which drug I go on. If anyone is on either of these infusions, let me know below how you’re getting on with it.

I will do a follow up video when the treatment has been decided, the procedure for switching over from Tecfidera to another treatment and how I get on with my first infusion.
