Unlike the "udni," the wild otters from the forests that are impossible to train, each family raises its own domesticated otters, passing them down from father to son. These otters are incredibly precious, valued as much as their weight in gold. In this particularly hostile region, where various wild animals thrive, the otters serve as guardians, alerting the fishermen to dangers such as tigers or snakes. The fishermen care for, spoil, and talk to their otters, making them an integral part of life on the boat.
