Welcome! Join The CatholicTV Network for the full Daily Catholic Mass celebration on this Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Ordinary Time, as we honor the Feast of St. Blaise.
In today's reverent Homily, Father Tim Kearney from the Watertown Catholic Collaborative reflects on the "determination" and "constancy" of the martyrs. Drawing from the life of St. Blaise, we are reminded of the power of faith to make us "victorious in suffering". Father Carney invites us to seek the patronage of St. Blaise, asking for peace and protection from every evil of soul and body. As we witness the profound grief of King David and the restorative power of Jesus, we are encouraged to remain faithful in our service to the Lord, trusting that He always hears the supplications of His people.
The Scriptures contrast the agony of loss with the authority of the Prince of Life:
-The First Reading (2 Samuel 18:9–19:3): A heart-wrenching account of the death of Absalom. When King David receives the news, he is overcome with grief, crying out, "My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you". His victory is turned into mourning, illustrating the deep complexities of human love and loss.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 86): A humble plea for divine attention: "Listen, Lord, and answer me".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 5:21-43): Jesus encounters two desperate pleas for help: Jairus, a synagogue official whose daughter is dying, and a woman with a hemorrhage who touches His cloak. Demonstrating His power over sickness and death, Jesus tells the young girl, "Talitha koum" (Little girl, I say to you, arise!), and she immediately stands up and walks.
May the sacred mysteries we celebrate today give us the strength to profess our faith with the same courage as the blessed martyr Blaise.
