Описание: Design for Dreaming (1956), GM's Motorama kitchen of the future, scored seventy years later, and the 1958 invention that actually delivered.

In 1956, General Motors rented a ballroom to show your grandmother the future: a kitchen where a cake bakes, frosts, and lights its own candles under a glass dome while she goes dancing. The film was called Design for Dreaming, and every promise in it was about a machine with hands. Seventy years later we score the promises — and name the thing that actually delivered: not a robot, but a sliver of germanium demonstrated in an empty Texas lab on September 12, 1958. Why your kitchen is full of computers and empty of robots, and why the work got cut in half anyway.

All archival footage is from the public domain (Prelinger Archives / Internet Archive); sources below. All prices adjusted to 2026 dollars (BLS CPI). Narration and analysis are original to this channel.
