8 elephants killed after Rajdhani Express hits herd in Assam | train derailed | no passenger injured

Описание: At least eight elephants were killed and one injured after the Sairang–New Delhi Rajdhani Express collided with a herd in Assam’s Hojai district during the early hours of Saturday. According to officials, the tragic incident occurred around 2:17 am in the Changjurai area, leading to the derailment of the train’s engine and five coaches. Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the accident.

Forest officials said the elephants were crossing the railway tracks when the high-speed train struck the herd. One elephant survived with injuries and is currently under continuous monitoring by forest department teams. Senior forest and railway officials rushed to the spot to assess the situation and initiate rescue and recovery operations.

Railway authorities stated that train movement on the Jamunamukh–Kampur section was disrupted following the derailment, with several trains diverted as restoration work continued. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over wildlife safety and railway operations in elephant corridors across Northeast India.
