this is a soulmate au/burke dies and never makes it to the wedding instead of leaving cristina at the altar in that ooc way that he did because they were trying to get rid of isaiah au. i know it's been over a decade since it happened but i'll never get over it. they really should've killed him off instead of butchering this relationship and his character.

this is also a relationship study of sorts. they'll always be my favorite love story on grey's. they always get so much flack because of how they ended and how they retconned their relationship to burke "taking pieces of cristina". but i really loved who she was when she was with him. i loved watching her start to open up and i loved watching burke slowly unravel because of cristina, too.

they have their ups and their downs, and they're flawed. both of them are. i hate seeing people blame all the faults of their relationship to burke because cristina had her fair share of faults too. but they always forgave each other and there's something really beautiful about the way they would always choose each other. (until they didn't. but hey. that's why burke dies in this.)

they're the most ideal match on grey's, imo. they're both driven, ambitious, incredibly passionate, not to mention cocky. they're both very guarded but they both feel so fiercely. and they're different in all the ways that counted, too. they balanced each other out. plus, they were the original intern/attending, science/faith, loving each other in this simple quiet way pairing. they were so goddamn steady and they were so committed to each other. like, i'm pretty sure at some points in s3, cristina was already thinking of him as her husband ("spouse" -3.03).

i love that nobody really understood them but them (and maybe izzie, addie, and callie). they were domestic as heck and they were so goddamn cute with each other in a way that they would hate if they realized it. (SHE STOLE HIS SCRUB CAP AND KEPT IT IN HER LOCKER). and who the hell ever expected these two – the two most brilliant, most intense surgeons ever – to be cuddlebugs.

and just. the way they look at each other in the OR. and the way they're framed when they're in the OR. it's something that could only be theirs. they're /the/ surgical love story. on a show about surgery.

they're my favorite because they weren't about epic moments. their nonchalance and their quiet declarations and promises were perfect and I LOVE THEM. they're each other's soulmates and nobody can convince me otherwise. they're so integral to each other, and even if he left, they were connected forever.

(also idk why people say that they weren't friends. they were friends. they lived together and nerded out about cardio together. that's canon. pretty sure cristina watched burke's surgical tapes like they were porn, too. and he narrated them to her and that's their foreplay. wyd.)
