Dr Oliver Watson – co-lead of the Jameel Institute–Realtime Intelligent Support for Emergencies (Jameel Institute-RISE) initiative – delivers a seminar on equitably equipping the response to conflicts and pandemics.
Part of a seminar series by the department of infectious disease epidemiology at Imperial College London, Oliver's presentation reflects on his experiences of how evidence-based decision making during public health crises has worked, when it has not, and how it has shaped the areas of research he is excited by, particularly in the effort to achieve greater equity in global and local responses.
Focused on how creating new data in resource poor settings, creative uses of alternative data when traditional data is scarce, and creating tools to democratise data analysis, this excerpt presents Jameel Institute-RISE's ongoing simulation-based evaluation of the causal drivers and feasibility of indirect mortality estimation in Gaza, Palestine.
