In this video, I break down why temptation often feels beautiful and why sin can become cyclical, almost addictive. Using the lyrics of a viral song as a modern parable, we walk through the mechanics of sin in Scripture: how desire becomes a pull, how attention gets reorganized, and how the “permission slip” of impulsivity makes us consequence-blind.
We connect the beginning of Genesis to real life:
• The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and how desire becomes a loop (Genesis 3)
• “Sin is crouching at the door… its desire is for you” and what it means to rule over it (Genesis 4:7)
• Why consequences are often cause-and-effect, a harvest from the seed that was planted
• Paul’s line: “Whatever is not of faith is sin” and what faith really means (Romans 14:23, Hebrews 11:1)
• Why “walk by faith, not by sight” is about living from assurance, not impulse (2 Corinthians 5:7)
• “Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16)
If you’ve ever wondered why you can know what’s right and still feel pulled, this will give you language for the loop and a framework for how to rule it instead of being ruled by it.
Scriptures referenced: Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3, Genesis 4:7, Romans 14:23, Hebrews 11:1, 2 Corinthians 5:7, Galatians 5:16 (and 2 Corinthians 11:14)
Where do you notice “desire loops” showing up in your life (thoughts, habits, reactions, cravings)?
What is the “tree” for you right now, the thing that becomes the focal point and reorganizes your attention?
In what ways does impulsivity shrink your timeline and make you consequence-blind in the moment?
When have you seen the “harvest” principle play out, where the outcome matched the seed that was planted?
What does “not of faith” look like practically for you (living by sight, self-rule, self-definition, flesh-led impulse)?
What would it look like to “rule over it” this week in one specific situation (Genesis 4:7)?
What identity lie do you feel temptation tries to name you with (“this is just who I am”)? What is the God-definition you need to side with instead?
