What is the Smart Cities Hackathon?
We're glad you asked. We are inviting developers to write software applications that solve some of the biggest problems facing urbanization today: specifically waste management, water management, and parking challenges. Developers pick which of the three challenges they want to work on, and at the beginning of the three-week long virtual hackathon (January 11-31, 2016), they will be provided with a specific simulation related to that issue that we challenge their team to solve. Teams will complete to build apps around this simulation that can receive real-time, dynamic data from the simulated environment as well as interact with the simulated environment to cause actions (e.g. turning on a light, sending an SMS). At the end of the two week hackathon, winners will receive a $5,000 cash prize as well as support from the TiE ecosystem to help bring the winner’s innovation to life.
