Today we learn how the son of Sigmund, Helgi, had to fight for his crown and in the end, was stabbed in the back only to continue to suffer continual pain because his wife Sigrun grieved so hard for him in “Helgi Hundingsbane.”

Sigmund became a mighty ruler, and he made Borghild his queen. In happiness, they dwelt together, and they had two sons who were named Helgi and Hamund. The norns's had foretold that Helgi would achieve great renown, and he did for a while. He was a far-famed warrior and in battle, he surpassed even his sire. As a boy, he had gone in disguise to Hunding's hall and was reared and trained in feats of strength till one day when he was ready to leave, he sent a message to King Hunding on whom he had been fostered. The king's response was to find and kill, which they didn't. War ensued, Helgi killed several of the king's sons, and those who survived vowed a blood vengeance against him. As Helgi was leaving the battlefield, he met princess Sigrun, a valkyrie and a swan maid. Helgi was instantly in love and swore to get of Hodbrod, who she was promised to, which he did. In the process of warring against the kingdom of Granmar, several of Sigrun's brothers were slain only Dag remained. Helgi sparred Dag her brother but required vows of fellowship which he gave, but in his heart, he swore vengeance. Want to know what happens next? Then listen in to hear the whole story.
