His shirt is so worn and torn that it can’t even be buttoned anymore. But he still puts it on every morning because it’s the only shirt he has to go out and work in.
This is Muhammad. A Syrian teenager who became the head of his family far too early.
His father was martyred, and now, the responsibility to feed his three younger siblings rests on his young shoulders.
Every day, Muhammad walks miles through the streets, collecting plastic bottles, cans, or anything he can sell - just to earn a few coins for a meal. On the hardest days, when nothing can be found, they survive by begging.
When we asked Muhammad what he hoped for, he didn’t ask for toys, gadgets, or comfort.
He gently whispered:
“I just want a dignified life for my family… enough food… and to return home.”
This is the reality for thousands like Muhammad.
