We went on the ultimate Yucatán food tour here in Mérida!!
We tried 8 MUST TRY FOODS here in 3 different locations around the city.
The locations we went to and the food we tried are listed below :
Location : Restaurant San Jose Mérida
Dishes :
Salbutes : A salbut is a puffed deep fried tortilla that is topped with lettuce, sliced avocado, pulled chicken or turkey, tomato and pickled red onion. Salbutes originate from the Yucatán peninsula and are a staple in Belize. Salbutes are mostly sold in the evenings when parties of friends or family go out to eat.
Sopa De Lima : This Lime soup is a traditional dish from the Mexican state of Yucatan, which is made of chicken or some other meat such as pork or beef, lime juice and served with tortilla chips.

Relleno negro : Relleno negro is a cuisine dish from Yucatán, México, based on turkey, pork and mixed chili peppers. Papadzules : Papadzules is a traditional dish from the Yucatán Peninsula resembling enchiladas. In its simplest form it consists of corn tortillas dipped in a sauce of pepita filled with hard-boiled eggs, and garnished with a cooked tomato-pepper sauce.

Dishes :
Cochinita pibil : Cochinita pibil is a traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán Peninsula. is a traditional Mexican slow-roasted pork dish from the Yucatán Peninsula. We had it in some tacos and IT WAS AMAZING.
Queso Relleno : Queso Relleno, prepared with a hollowed-out Queso de Bola (Edam cheese), which is then filled with ground beef and pork, almonds, raisins, green pepper, and local spices. It’s covered in a white sauce known as K’ool made with flour, lard, and chicken broth, and finally, it’s topped with tomato sauce.
Poc Chuc : Poc chuc is a Mexican dish of meat, commonly pork, that is prepared in citrus marinade and cooked over a grill. Poc chuc is often served with a side of rice, pickled onion, refried beans, and avocado. Poc chuc is one of the signature dishes of the Yucatán.
