This Twitch session will demonstrate how I approach painting torchlight and Object Source Lighting with oil paints.
The primary challenge is to have color and "temperature" contrast to make the glow look brighter and 'hotter'. That means using cooler, grayer colors for areas not lit by the glow of the fire, such as the metals.
Starting with the darker "Pre-Glaze", which I guess you could call 'slapchop', I then take my filbert brushes and begin to map out the lighter areas and reflections. I concentrate on establishing that glow effect as soon as possible!
I have hundreds of tutorials for miniature painting as part of my Patreon page at / jameswappel , including several army painting series on Song of Ice and Fire miniatures
I do a series called "Chapter Studies" on my Patreon Page, and I have already covered 9 different chapters like White Scars, Black Templar, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Imperial Fists, Salamanders, Ultramarines, Iron Hands, etc.
I also do more comprehensive video tutorial series on painting units as part of my Patreon Army Painter pledge level. These are 5 episodes long, and begin with basing the unit. From there, I take you through the entire painting process, figure by figure! I have 5 different series on Lord of the Rings miniatures, including Dol Amroth, Rohan, Harad, Morghul Knights, Army of the Dead, Iron Hills Dwarves and my Easterlings. I also have Army Painting series for Warcry, Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40k and Game of Thrones!.
I am now finished with my 38th series, which is why you gain access to over 1400 hours of tutorial videos when you become a patron at that level... you can check it out here: / jameswappel
This is my Twitch channel, where you can watch me tackle all kinds of painting projects live: / wappellious
