FITNESS-FOR-SERVICE ASSESSMENT OF A 24-INCH GAS PIPELINE USING MFL INLINE INSPECTION: A CASE STUDY

Описание: This paper presents a case study on the application of Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) inline inspection and Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessment for the integrity management of a 24-inch gas pipeline from platform A to Onshore Receiving Facilities (ORF) in Indonesia. The MFL inspection, conducted in September 2023, detected 84,227 metal loss anomalies, with 4,643 features exceeding 20% of the nominal wall thickness. The FFS assessment, based on ASME B31G-2023, showed that all anomalies were within acceptable limits, and the pipeline was fit for continued service at the current Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) of 4.63 MPa without immediate repairs. However, the corrosion growth rate analysis revealed high corrosion rates in certain sections, with the Riser section having the shortest remaining life of 4.3 years.
The case study demonstrates the effectiveness of MFL inspection and FFS assessment in providing comprehensive data on the pipeline's condition, enabling optimized maintenance and repair strategies. The paper also discusses the broader implications for the pipeline industry and offers suggestions for further research and best practices to enhance the effectiveness and reliability of these methods in pipeline integrity management.
