Very rare video of the steam train ride at the Tombstone Junction Amusement Park which operated from the 1960's until 1991 right next door to Cumberland Falls State Park in McCreary Co. Kentucky.
This video gives us a passenger eye view of the Ole' 77 steam train ride which took park visitors on a 2 1/2 mile ride through the kentucky woods. The locomotive is Union Railroad #77 a 1944 ALCO 0-6-0 which by the time this video was taken had been working at the park for close to 30 years.
The train ride would be "robbed" at the bottom of the grade each trip in order to give the train crew time to build up enough steam to tackle the 6% ruling grade the engine faced each time it pulled the train back towards the park. The robbery also gives a glimpse as to just how laid back the operations at Tombstone Junction were and how locals regulary played robbers.
This video was gifted to me by William Johnson who was the locomotive engineer at Tombstone for many years.
