My Thoughts On The Song/Chart: Kind of sorta meant to post this yesterday as it was 67th Anniversary of "The Day the Music Died" in which Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and "The Big Bopper" J. P. Richardson were all killed in a plane crash alongside their pilot Roger Peterson.
This song is a late 50s Rock N Roll classic that has been covered numerous times throughout the years, including by The Quarrymen in which several members (Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison) would later become The Beatles. The cover of this song (As well as "In Spite of All the Danger") would be among the earliest recordings by what would later become The Beatles.
Anyways now that the history lesson is over, the song itself chart wise is pretty standard 50s rock fare, A simple Rockabilly main riff throughout most the song with some random short alt strumming bursts at times.
Despite being a tier 3 on Guitar, the Solo is admittingly a bit difficult to nail properly, especially if you aren't good at grace note patterns. The second pattern of which at exactly 1:00 in feels almost like an even more scuffed version of what you play in "I Me Mine" on TBRB. Thankfully it doesn't last very long and once you hit that, the rest of the song is pretty much free.

Song Facts:
"That'll Be the Day" is a song written by Buddy Holly and Jerry Allison. It was first recorded by Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes in 1956 and was re-recorded in 1957 by Holly and his new band, the Crickets. Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes' version was released several months after the Crickets' version, which achieved widespread success.
Holly's producer, Norman Petty, was credited as a co-writer, although he did not contribute to the composition.
Many other versions have been recorded. It was the first song recorded (as a demonstration disc) by the Quarrymen, a skiffle group from Liverpool that evolved into the Beatles.
The 1957 recording was certified gold (for over a million US sales) by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1969. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. It was placed in the National Recording Registry, a list of sound recordings that "are culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States", in 2005.
