We are a family of five living in a tiny 60㎡ apartment in Tokyo.
In this video, I set up compact Hina dolls for Hina Matsuri, Girls’ Day in Japan, with my three kids.
Storage is always a challenge in our small Tokyo home, so we keep the dolls in a high cabinet most of the year.
Our Hina dolls are a special compact wooden set made by a craftsman in Nara.
All the dolls, the stand and the screen fit neatly into one box, which is perfect for a tiny apartment.
In Japan, many families prepare one set of Hina dolls for each girl.
We have two daughters, so we have two sets in our 60㎡ home.
There is also a saying that if you don’t put the dolls away soon after March 3rd, the girls might marry late.
