Meet Namuuntsetseg, a young worker from Mongolia’s Selenge province. In a country where nearly 30% of the workforce is under 35, young people face unique challenges in the labour market.
Thanks to trainings tailored for youth, Namuuntsetseg and her peers are now equipped to identify their challenges and create practical solutions. Organized by the Trade for Decent Work Project in partnership with the Selenge trade union and local civil society, these sessions are helping young workers understand the meaning of “decent work” and how to promote it in their communities through advocacy, trainings, and collaboration.
A key tool behind these trainings is the ILO’s “Work Wise Youth: A Guide to Youth Rights at Work”, adapted to align with Mongolian legislation, making it a practical guide for local youth development.
The impact goes beyond training: the province has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate a Decent Work sub-programme into its four-year action plan, starting in 2026. This initiative will give youth hands-on workplace experience while ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and a work environment free from violence and harassment.
From knowledge to action, young people in Selenge are shaping a future where work is not just work, but decent work.
