This rainfall was a welcome relief amidst the troubling reports of heat-related fatalities, particularly among Jordanian pilgrims. Tragically, the Jordanian foreign ministry has confirmed the deaths of 14 pilgrims, with at least six linked directly to heatstroke, and 17 others reported missing.

The temperatures in Mecca reached a staggering 47 degrees Celsius, prompting the Saudi Health Ministry to reinforce the importance of hydration and the use of umbrellas for protection against sunstroke and other heat-related ailments. Despite these harsh conditions, Hajj, which ranks as one of the world's largest mass gatherings, proceeded. Pilgrims were continually reminded to take all necessary precautions for their safety and well-being.

In response to the severe weather, the Saudi Government took a decisive step by suspending the Rami rituals until 4 pm during the final phase of Hajj 2024, advising pilgrims to remain in their tents in Mina to avoid the worst of the heat.
