So begins the series of MMCJ studio drum cams! I decided to pick 4 drum-heavy songs (and to match the amount of LH studio cams).

These sessions began at the end of December 2013 after a successful Kickstarter campaign to actually get the album funded, so I was super stoked! I got to use all gear I like, rented a ride I wanted, bought new hi hats and hi hat stand, and just fresh off Christmas season so I was feeling pretty grand.

This one took a few tries to get into just right. I think the take you're watching is the 4th one? Everything went smoother once I got into it. I actually broke the top snare mic during this song, but I miraculously had the same mic in my backpack, so I replaced it immediately lol.

Like many of the songs on this album, this was written even before our first EP was released. As such, my parts changed throughout the years and I finally decided on this vibe. I was getting more into funk, hip hop, and gospel drumming during that time and I've been trying to incorporate those sensibilities in MMCJ's music. That mix of groove in our kind of rock/punk makes it a bit Primus'y (so we've been told, which is cool!). But ya, every part is pre-determined by this point and I'm really happy with the writing :).
