A piercing deep-dive into ikhlāṣ (sincerity) as the greatest action of the heart, without which Jannah is impossible and even the most spectacular deeds can end in Hell.
We begin with the chilling ḥadīth of the first three people thrown into Hell to show how corrupted intentions destroy otherwise huge deeds, then define ikhlāṣ linguistically and Islamically: purifying an action from all but Allah, so the inner and outer match and no witness or reward is sought except His.
We explain 7-reasons sincerity terrified the Salaf and should transform us, we offer practical paths to ikhlāṣ: remembering Allah’s favour in guiding you, the insignificance of people’s praise, hiding as many deeds as possible, contemplating the consequences of showing off, avoiding the love of fame, making the du‘ā’ “Allāhumma innī a‘ūdhu bika an ushrika bika wa-anā a‘lamu wa-astaghfiruka limā lā a‘lamu,” and accepting that constantly fighting for sincerity is itself a sign of sincerity.
