Dr. Ruthy Watson's conviction that relationships among women are essential to overall wellness has evolved over years of research in community health. The relationships women form with their girlfriends provide connection, community, cohesiveness, safety, peace, and trust. Dr. Watson calls these combined benefits to emotional, physical, and psychological health "Girlfriend Capital". She is currently an Assistant Professor at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
