You probably need to file a nonresident state return if you made money in any other state—for example, if you own rental property or work in another state.
First, make sure you fill out the personal info section correctly.
Answer "Yes" to the question, “Did you make money in any other states?” and select other states from the dropdown menu. Select additional nonresident states if needed.
When finished, click "Continue."
After you finish your federal return, we'll send you to the state taxes tab. Just click "Start" next to your nonresident state.
Do your nonresident taxes first, before your resident or part-year returns.
And don't worry if your refund doesn't look right at first—TurboTax will do the math once all your state returns are done.
