In this episode, Nance and I continue our exegetical reading of the third chapter ('Superego by Default') of Slavoj Žižek's 'The Metastases of Enjoyment'. Here, we read through and discuss the subsection titled 'The Split Subject of Interpellation'. This is Žižek at his best. He argues that ideology can never fully master us, since part of us, our subjectivity, always escapes its hold, that is, subjectivity is never reducible to symbolic identity ("subjectivization"). This is precisely why, on Lacanian grounds, Žižek parts ways with Althusser's theory of ideology. Enjoy . . . or do not enjoy. The choice is yours.
