Murdeshwar Shiva Temple Of Karnataka | Tallest Shiva Statue | Bangalore To Murdeshwar
Murdeshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and in year 2008, a 20-storied Raja Gopuram was constructed at the temple. The temple authorities have installed a lift that provides a bird's eye view of 123-feet Sri Shiva idol from the top of the Raja Gopuram.
We also ate Prasad in the temple's complex that starts from 7:00 am in the morning. We're offered following items:
a) Upma
b) Avalakki (Flattened rice/poha)
c) Chaas (Butter Milk)
Legend has it that temple's history dates to Ramayana times when to attain immortality Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva and got Atma-Linga. Lord Shiva set a condition that Linga shouldn't be placed on Earth before reaching Lanka. But Lord Ganesha disguising himself as a Brahman boy tricked Ravana and deliberately placed that Linga on Earth when Ravana had gone to perform his evening rituals.
Finally, he threw the cloth covering Atma-Linga to a place called Mrideshwar which is present-day Murdeshwar.
