It has been ordered by the Assam government after demands from certain sections of the public to ensure transparency and address questions.

The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said it is being done with consent of Garg’s family.

It will take place on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) at 7:30 AM.

Doctors from AIIMS, Guwahati will also be involved.

The post-mortem is expected to take about 90 minutes to two hours.

Because the second post-mortem causes a slight delay, the funeral procession’s start time has been pushed to 9:30 AM instead of the earlier plan.
