Picking up my journey in Olivine City, I discovered that the local Gym Leader was missing and the lighthouse was completely shuttered. Seeking leads, I visited the city's restaurant, where a distressed sailor revealed that a Team Rocket thug had stolen his HM for Strength. Forced to backtrack, I took the long route toward Cherrygrove City and reunited with Nia, a former Team Rocket member who was already investigating the string of thefts. We scoured the waters and finally located the thief's hideout, though Nia beat me inside, successfully recovering the stolen HMs and generously passing them on to me. With the Strength HM finally in my possession and instructions from Nia to meet her next in Mahogany Town, I was equipped to solve the Cianwood Gym's boulder puzzle, track down Olivine's missing leader, and finally secure both of my badges.

This journey across the Johto region is filled with unique mechanics and rules: you'll discover maps to give to "Captains" who will take you to special Event Islands, and you can even sneak past the Safari Zone counter to battle wild Pokémon normally. With a full suite of modern quality-of-life features and a strict rule that scripted encounters must be caught, this is a fresh and engaging new way to experience the world of Johto.
