Euphorbia milii (crown of thorns, Christ plant, Christ thorn) is a species of flowering plant in the family Euphorbiaciae, native to Madagascar.
It is a succulent climbing shrub with densely spiny stems. The flowers are small and come in a pair of conspicuous petal-like bracts, and can be red, pink or white in color.
The milky sap coming out of the plant when cut, is moderately poisonous, and causes irritation on contact with skin or eyes. If ingested, it causes severe abdominal pain, irritation of the throat and mouth, and also vomiting. Hence use gloves when you handle this plant.
Regarding the care of Euphorbia plant, it is a succulent and requires a well drained soil and some amount of sunlight like 1 -2 hours of direct sunlight or shady area with indirect sunlight. It can also be kept indoors. Do not over water this plant, the roots may rot with too much watering. Alternate day watering is more than sufficient.
Here we have repotted this small euphorbia plant into a well drained soil containing 50% garden soil, 40% coco peat (you can also use river sand or peat moss instead of cocopeat) and about 10 % compost like vermicompost or decomposed cowdung or horse dung powder.
