Soft Cell + Pet Shop Boys - A RENT Could Get Lost

Описание: Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys came out with their first collaboration in March 2022. That kept me thinking how both bands are linked to each other.

When PSB appeared on the scene, Soft Cell had just broken up. Their sleazy, drastic pop sensibilities had turned darker and ever so self-destructive. Along came the much cleaner and and less gritty Pet Shop Boys, who swapped the filthy SoHo glamour for dead-pan poshness and Italian fashion.

Where Soft Cell evoked the smut you´d had under your fingernails after you´d scratch down a tv-screen, Pet Shop Boys could wine and dine you from a squeeky clean floor...as long as you´d ignored the darkness lurking in the corners.In a way, PSB were the logical continuation of Soft Cell. The latter had rebelled against everything (mostly themselves) and now it was time to swap the eyeliner and bone-necklaces for designer sunglasses and inflatable jackets.

Of course I wanted to "mash" A Man Could Get Lost (Soft Cell) with A Man Could Get Arested (PSB). But those songs don´t mix very well. So I tried it with RENT, which is probably the other most Soft Cell-y song PSB have written.

This was a quick reaction to the slightly underwhelming (IMO) Purple Zone collaboration, which came out two days ago. This mix was done after 3 or 4 trial runs. As always I mixed it live with no overdubs with Virtual-DJ.
