In this live stream presentation, Dr. Donald Wallenfang, OCDS discusses the nature of spiritual being in relation to material being. With reference to the writings of twentieth-century German philosopher Edith Stein, Wallenfang unmasks the unwarranted reductionisms typical of philosophy. Instead of envisaging an either/or dichotomy between realism and idealism, Wallenfang suggests that philosophy attend to reality while not making an "-ism" out of it. Through both philosophical methods of phenomenology and metaphysics, we are able to access the fullness of reality in terms of spirit, matter, givenness, meaning, and ethics.
