Series 5 : EP6: Net, Sacred, Trance - Ouidah and Entering Togo

Описание: It's the 17th of September, 2025. Time to rouse ourselves from our beds in our beachside resort in Ouidah. Get some breakfast and a morning coffee and then we are off to see one of the local sights of Ouidah, Kpasse's Sacred Forest. Then it's time to leave Benin and cross the border into Togo. Even though we have a couple of stops during the day we are going to almost cross Togo by this afternoon and finish the day in Lome. This is another 'busy day' video so rather then cram everything in I'm going to split the day into two parts, morning and afternoon. The morning is taken up with a dance event and the afternoon with a visit to the old capital of Togo. That will appear in the next episode.

Our first official stop for the day is at a village that is holding a trance dance. This is a spiritual voodoo event where people give themselves up to spiritual possession under the influence of music. As I mention in the video, my ability to record the music came nowhere near matching the power and subtley of being there. The Trance Dance section of the video is fairly long but only a summary of the event as we experienced it. I hope I adequately recorded the event to give you some idea of what it was like.
