On March 17, 2012, 26-year-old Koby Morrison left a friend's house in Turlock, California. He never came home. Eighteen months later, hunters found his remains in Stanislaus National Forest, eighty miles away. What followed was one of the most complex and controversial investigations in California history. In August 2015, nine people were arrested—including a prominent defense attorney, two business owners, and three California Highway Patrol officers. The charges: murder and conspiracy. But as the case unfolded, six defendants were cleared before trial even began. The remaining three faced a jury after a record-breaking eighteen-month preliminary hearing and a fourteen-month trial. The key witness changed his story five times. DNA found on the murder weapon didn't match any defendant. And when the jury finally delivered their verdicts in June 2019, the fundamental question remained unanswered: who actually killed Koby Morrison?
