150 years ago in 1875, the Alliance of the Reformed Churches throughout the World holding the Presbyterian System (ARCWPS) was organised in London.
In 1891, the International Congregational Council (ICC) was formed, which brought together churches of the Reformed Tradition that adopted the congregational system of government.
In 1946, a more conservative group of Reformed churches organized the Reformed Ecumenical Council (REC).
In 1970, the ARCWPS and ICC merged to form the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC).
In the 21st century, the WARC and the REC grew increasingly close and then joining. After first calling the potential body "World Reformed Communion", this was modified into "World Communion of Reformed Churches".
On 12th July 2025 the United Reformed Church hosted a service of worship to commemorate 150 years of this communion, held at the American International Church in London, led by President Revd Najla Kassab and acting General Secretary Revd Dr Setri Nyomi.
