This video was recorded with a Samsung Galaxy s8+ cell phone so the sound isn't professional quality (and lacks the full freq bandwidth 20hz-20khz)...All that being said I will say I was skeptical about the Devialet Gold Monitors that is until I compared the against my Genelec 8050b monitors. I know that studio monitors have a very different purpose than home speakers but i was using my Genelecs for my home stereo in addition to tracking my own music.. I think that Genelec monitors are some of the the best speakers I have ever heard. The Genelecs actually sound better than all of the studio monitors I have heard. That being said... these Devialets sound better than my Genelecs. They have more bass (not boomy just deeper, smoother and richer). Tighter bass - less boomy. Huge sound - much bigger than the Genelecs - this maybe intentional on Genelecs part though. The Genelecs are mixing monitors, meaning they are meant to be listened to very close to your ears (5-15' feet) and not have a wide sound stage. That being said ... A/B switching music from Genelecs to Devialets, the sound went from a small room 15' or so, to a stage 50'+. Also, in the past I would brag how the Genelec tweeters were smooth and easy on the ears... that is until I compared them in this video to the Devialets... the Genelecs sounded A LOT harsher than the Devs, almost annoying. The midrange sounded similar (even though the genetics don't have a mid driver) except the Dev was more open (a lot wider, softer and smoother). These Genelec 8050's cost $2500 each/$5,000 pair. Until now I have not really heard anything to rival them in every area (not hyperbole) ... that is until Devlet. I have had studio monitors like (mostly top of the line) Focal (very good), KRK, Yamaha, JBL (very good), Dynamics's audio(nice), Adams (nice), Presonus etc.. I have had home speakers: B&W diamonds 805 (these are VERY SIMILAR sounding to my Genetics in mid and tweeter but nowhere near the bass), KEF speakers, the older ones, very nice sound (as smooth) but not close to these in output punch/dynamics and bass. Quads (smooth but not transient), Magnapan, Carver Amazing speakers, Linn (no bass), Sonus Faber (along with the B&W diamond 805 maybe some of the best speakers beside the Devialet that I have heard) the BW/Sonus sounded as good as my Genelecs but didn't have the lower mid bass or deeper bass (both of these struggle at 60hz and below at volumes 95-100db and above (but i felt that the tweeters on both the B&W805 diamonds and the Sonus Faber were better on these than my on Gens). I forgot which Songs Faber they were but they were 2 way bookshelf speakers that cost a little more than $5,000 and they were made in ~ 2009
So $6k for these? I would say yeah! especially for the size they are... they are worth it. However, for 6K you could get a bigger set of speakers to sound as good, maybe? but it won't be an easy find.
I didn't do this video for me... i did it for you guys. just thought it would help people out, seeing how hard it is to find info on the Devialets. so forgive my sloppy typing ..I really hated doing this. it took a lot of work because I'm not that tech savvy
