This video is the mostly complete Game 2 of the 1973 World Series between the Mets and Athletics, with New York winning at Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum, 10-7, in 12 innings, on Oct. 14.
It originally was broadcast by NBC Sports, with Curt Gowdy, Monte Moore, and Tony Kubek in the booth, and then re-aired by ESPN Classic. It's missing most of the (non-scoring) action from the top of the fifth to the bottom of the eighth. Also, the final inning, lost to history, is patched together from highlights.
The contest set a record for longest game in Series history at four hours 13 minutes. It was also one of the strangest Fall Classic games, with Willie Mays and other OFs losing balls in the sun and several more unusual plays.
It went into extras tied at 6, and in the top of the 10th the A's caught a break when left fielder Joe Rudi threw out Bud Harrelson at the plate - except that catcher Ray Fosse never tagged him (see thumbnail pic). So it stayed deadlocked until the top of the 12th. A Mays RBI single gave the Mets a 7–6 lead, then a ball went between A's second baseman Mike Andrews' legs to score two and make it 9-6. The next batter grounded to Andrews, but the umpire (incorrectly) ruled his throw to first pulled Gene Tenace off the bag and a run scored to make it 10–6.
The A's got one in the bottom half, but Andrews' errors were too much to overcome. Irate A's owner Charlie Finley tried to place Andrews on the disabled list, citing a fake injury. Commissioner Bowie Kuhn stepped in, re-activated Andrews, and disciplined Finley.
The A's ended up winning the Series in seven games.
The reason I posted this game, aside from the fact that it's called by the great Gowdy, my favorite baseball broadcaster, is to get rid of the pregame show and commercials. Game action starts at 13:45.
