Luis Goemans - Zyklische Variationen Op.1 (2021)
Vinsenso Julius Pratama Husin - Piano
This video is from the premiere of my Cyclic Variations during the Long Night Of New Music (LNNM) 13.11.2021 at the Robert Schumann University.
Special thanks to Vinsenso, who is a wonderful pianist. And also a big thank you to Prof. Georg Schenck, who got me in touch with Vinsenso and was there for all of the rehearsals.

To the piece:
The 12-tone row used in this piece is
5 2 0 10 7 8 6 9 4 3 11 1
or
F D C Bb G Ab F# A E Eb B C#
which is then mathematically altered into 48 different rows (including the original one). Not all rows are dodekaphonic. The composition is structured into six cycles. Each cycle following the same rules (with exeption of the final fugue).
A cycle contains five variations. The first one sets a landscape. The second one is a free melody over that landscape. The third one puts the harmony through some function, mathematical or musical (for example a retrograde or some Ax[G]). The forth one exchages the harmony with a free one. And lastly the fifth one puts the melody through some function.
