This is a true story of a man-eater tiger that killed and ate 22 people. The tiger spread fear across the Dudhwa forest region and nearby villages. It did not stop at villagers alone—two employees of the Dudhwa Rest House were also killed and eaten by the tiger.
The incidents took place in 1978, a time when forest protection and monitoring systems were limited. The tiger became extremely bold due to repeated human encounters and a steady supply of victims. Villagers lived in constant terror, afraid to enter forests, fields, or even walk near their homes.
The situation grew so serious that forest officials were forced to take immediate action. The man-eater was eventually tracked after long and dangerous efforts. Its killing brought an end to months of fear and saved countless lives.
This incident remains one of the most frightening and documented man-eater tiger cases in the history of the Dudhwa region and is still remembered as a dark chapter in human–wildlife conflict in India.
