Mahindra has launched the second-gen thar with prices beginning from Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Thar 2021 comes with all new exteriors and interiors. The Mahindra SUV would feature BSVI compliant petrol and diesel powertrains mated to six speed manual and automatic transmissions.

The thar new model 2021 comes with a hard top, a first-in-class convertible top and an optional soft top. It also features new seating options -- 4 front-facing seats and 2 plus 4 side-facing seats.

The new Thar SUV is available with both petrol and diesel engines. While the That petrol engine is a new 2.0-litre turbocharged unit good for 150PS and 300Nm (MT)/320Nm (AT), the diesel engine is a 2.2-litre unit that produces 130PS and 300Nm. Both the engines get a 6-speed manual unit as standard while a 6-speed automatic can also be availed as an option. As a Thar staple, 4x4 drivetrain is standard on both the powertrains.


The NEW Mahindra Thar comes in three variants: AX, AX Opt and LX. The manufacturer offers the Thar in three body styles: a fixed soft top, a cabriolet or convertible soft top and a fixed hard top. While the AX variant can be had with a fixed soft top only, the other two variants are offered can be had with either a hard top or a convertible roof.

Thar AX and Thar LX offer some similar features and equipment, but there are some differences. Here is a list of what each variant offer.

NEW Mahindra Thar AX variant features

The Thar AX variant will be available with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine options with 6-speed manual transmissions, power steering and a mechanical diff lock. The AX model will also offer safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and reversing camera. Other features that will be available as standard include manual IRVM, fixed soft top, LED tail lamps, 16-inch white steel wheels 245/75 section tyres, 6-seat layout, manual air-conditioning controls, power windows and 12V power outlet

However, optional features on offer will include read defogger, roll cage, convertible hardtop with remote keyless entry, four-seat layout with Front-facing rear seats, 4-way adjustable front passenger seat and driver seat height adjust function.

NEW Mahindra Thar LX variant features

The New Mahindra Thar Top Model will be offered with the same engine options, But the petrol engine will be automatic-only, while the diesel will be offered with the 6-speed manual or the option of the 6-speed automatic. Again 4×4 is offered as standard with locking diff and power steering. But the advanced electronic controls will offer ESP with rollover mitigation, hill-start and hill descent assist. The LX will also offer additional safety and driver aid features including Tyre Pressure Monitors, Tyre Direction Monitor, four-seat layout with three-point seat belts for all four passengers, including height and lumbar adjust at the front with fabric upholstery, ISOFIX, Roll cage, follow me home headlamps, convertible or hardtop. Exterior features include 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone bumpers, moulded footsteps, LED DRLs and front fog lamps.

Being more of a lifestyle-oriented, the Thar LX will offer more comfort features including automatic climate control, cruise control, power-adjustable ORVMs, roof-mounted speakers, steering mounted controls, colour MID in the driver instrument cluster and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation and USB connectivity.

In both variants, Mahindra will be offering IP54 water resistance grade interior switchgear and the cabin has been designed to be easily cleaned after a session of off-roading.

New Thar 2021 is available in 6 different colours - Red Rage, Mystic Copper, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, Rocky Beige, Aqua Marine.


The 2021 Thar only natural rival will be the upcoming new FORCE GARKHA, while it also goes up against similarly priced compact SUVs such as the HYUNDAI CRETA , KIA SELTOS AND RENAULT DUSTER.
