Last range trip, I felt like dusting off my trusty old FEG AMD65 and putting a few rounds through her. Then the next week, my Hungarian AKM63 clone project was finished up. So with both things in mind, it felt like a great time to revisit some AKs from Hungary!
This AMD65 carbine variant is quite well known today, but these flew under the radar back when they were on the market in 2009-2010. What you have is an original military AMD remanufactured/rebuilt onto a semi-auto only FEG SA-2000M receiver. Some work was done in Hungary, while the rest was carried out in the US by TGI.
As for the SA-85M rifle, this early postban version was built by FEG in Hungary and imported by KBI back around 1991-1997. Converting one into a reasonably authentic AKM63 isn't too difficult and just requires finding the right parts. Here some are from an old AKM63 parts kit and others from a recent AK63F set.
In the end, I am very pleased with both firearms and Hungarian AKs are among my favorites.
