This video is a collection of interviews capturing the spirit of Khadi Holi at Purani Bazar Chowk, Pithoragarh.
Beginning on Phalgun Ashtami, the celebrations unfold not just through colours, but through collective singing, prayer, and gathering. At Purani Bazar Chowk, a sacred tree branch is placed as a symbol of renewal and the arrival of spring. From there, each evening, people form circles and sing traditional Khadi Holi songs that carry devotion, history, and cultural memory.
What makes this Holi unique is its shared spirit. While Holi is widely known as a Hindu festival, at Purani Bazar Chowk it becomes a celebration of community beyond religion. Hindus and Muslims stand in the same circle, sing the same songs, and take part in the same tradition. Here, identity does not divide. Participation unites.
Through conversations with elders, cultural voices, and young participants who are proudly carrying the tradition forward, this video documents how Khadi Holi continues to live through people.
This is not just about colours.
It is about voices coming together.
It is about community.
