Set after the harrowing events on the island of Yamatai, Rise of the Tomb Raider finds a more experienced Lara Croft grappling with her supernatural encounter. Discredited by the public, she turns to her late father’s research on the lost city of Kitezh and the promise of immortality. Her quest leads her to the unforgiving, icy landscapes of Siberia, where she races against Trinity, a ruthless paramilitary organization also seeking the Divine Source, a fabled artifact said to grant eternal life.

The gameplay builds upon the foundation of its 2013 predecessor, refining the blend of action, exploration, and survival. While combat remains a significant element, allowing for a mix of stealth and explosive firefights with crafted weapons and gadgets, the game places a renewed emphasis on "tomb raiding." Unlike the previous title, Rise features a greater number of optional challenge tombs, each filled with elaborate puzzles and hidden secrets that reward players with new skills. This shift caters to the franchise's roots, encouraging players to explore the game's expansive, interconnected hub areas.

Survival mechanics are also more pronounced. Lara must hunt animals and scavenge for resources to craft equipment, ammunition, and upgrades. The hostile environment itself is a formidable foe, with Lara battling extreme weather and treacherous conditions. The game’s stunning visuals and immersive sound design bring the Siberian wilderness to life, from vast, snow-covered mountains to claustrophobic, ancient crypts.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was met with critical acclaim for its polished gameplay, captivating story, and excellent character development. Camilla Luddington's performance as Lara received praise for adding emotional depth and a newfound confidence to the character.
