The Arctic Explorer - Blender Animated Short

Описание: I took some time off from all the cars and engines and spent some time fiddling with simple characters and animation. I felt like I needed to work on a project with a story in it. Visually a lot of things could be improved in this animation, but I decided to finally call it done. Hope you can ignore these things and enjoy the simple, little story anyway.

Introduction to the story:
Far in the north the contemplative explorer named Ivan lives in his small cabin in the middle of the snowy desert - surrounded by nothing but ice and the plank of his humble home. But one day as Ivan sits in his favorite cozy chair in front of the crackling fireplace he receives a post card from a friend. The message is simple: I have something important to tell you. Meet me at sunset.
However, things does not turn out exactly as one would expect. (Otherwise it would have been a very lame story...)


Before I began the project I decided I wanted to make a video with a simplistic look, with very basic colors and only one dirt texture. I broke this rule... But only once though. (For Ivan's hat)
It was challenging building interesting shaders with these limitations, but I found that the 'fresnel' node and the 'pointness attribute' were great for adding color variation to the materials.

The music I made myself. Some very basic stuff. Did it just to get my own nice, little soundtrack for the film.
