June 5, 2020—IRGC commander Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf was appointed as the Parliament Speaker on May 28, 2020.
Who is Ghalibaf? What is his background? And why the Iranian regime appointed him as the Parliament Speaker?
Let’s get through these questions…
1980
As a member of Khomeini’s paramilitary group, 19-year-old Ghalibaf played a key role in attacks by the regime’s club-wielding and oppressing opposition groups, especially the PMOI/MEK.
He was dispatched to Kurdistan to oppress the Kurdish people
1981
Ghalibaf joined IRGC and took part in Iran-Iraq war
1983
Qalibaf promoted to commander of Nasr Division during the war and dispatched thousands of children to minefields.
1988
Ghalibaf commanded the 3rd region of the IRGC
1989
Ghalibaf was assigned as commander of the IRGC 25th Karbala Division
Shortly thereafter, he was appointed as the IRGC Ground Forces Chief of Staff.
1994
Ghalibaf was appointed commander of the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Garrison, one of the regime’s largest economic pillars.
1997
Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed Ghalibaf as the IRGC Air Force Commander. He then expanded the IRGC’s missile units from 3 to 5 brigades.
1999
In July 1999, despite being IRGC’s Air Force commander, he personally took part in the suppression of the students’ protests. His audio file reveals his vicious nature.
2000
Ghalibaf was appointed as commander of the State Security Force (SSF).
In September, he implemented a harassing plan named “moral security” mostly targeting women’s freedom in dressing
2005
Ghalibaf became Tehran’s mayor. He implemented a suppressive gender segregation plan in Tehran’s municipalities.
As Tehran’s mayor, Ghalibaf was accused of stealing and plundering the city’s resources of Tehran’s municipality.
On July 12, 2017, the state-run Iran daily quoted the General Inspection Office that Tehran Municipality Under Ghalibaf has been accused of bribery, embezzlement, fraud, and misusing public property amounting to over $6.8 bn. (22 trillion tomans)
This is just a part of the corruption made by Ghalibaf. On August 20, 2019, state-run media exposed a dozen more facts on corruption.
On February 21, 2020, Ghalibaf ran for the sham parliamentary election.
Ghalibaf received only 14% of the vote cast by eligible voters despite astronomical rigging.
Those making it to the Parliament are a band of IRGC commanders and criminals.
The IRGC-dominated Parliament is the flipside of, and indispensable to, a Hezbollahi Government, for which Khamenei had called on May 17.
Terrified of an uprising, Khamenei had long planned to purge the candidates from the rival factions and hold a sham and engineered election for such a parliament and government to be formed.
Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), described IRGC Brig. Gen. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the regime’s new Parliament Speaker, as the murderer of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (PMOI/MEK) members, and an accomplice to Ebrahim Raisi, the regime’s Judiciary Chief. Qalibaf is among primary officials involved in suppression and warmongering and engaged in theft and plunder within the clerical regime. Appointing him as the Head of the Legislature by Khamenei is a new step towards further contraction of the ruling system in the final phase of this regime.
