This video is part of the @urban_pigeon 'Station to Station' series. A cinematic London walking guide from Charing Cross Station to Westminster Station.
Walk the corridor of power. This journey takes us from the official "centre point" of the capital at Charing Cross, down the ceremonial stretch of Whitehall, and into the shadow of Big Ben. This is where history is made, defended, and commemorated.
The Urban Pigeon Secret – Look at the equestrian statue of King Charles I at the top of Whitehall. This is the exact spot from which all distances to London are measured—making it the literal Centre of London. But here’s the twist: during the English Civil War, the statue was sold to a local brazier with orders to melt it down. The man claimed he had destroyed it and even sold "souvenirs" made from the bronze to both sides—but he actually hid the statue in his garden and brought it back once the monarchy was restored!
