The 3 most common failures on the ZF 5HP19 transmission are:
Pump bushing spins out & fluid leaks everywhere
D/G drum breaks & you loose reverse
Torque converter clutch seal blows out, you get a P0741 code and you have to replace the whole torque converter
It's been determined by a transmission builder that these problems are all caused by wear in the pressure regulator bore in the valve body. A company called Transgo makes an upgraded pressure regulator with o-rings that help to seal better. In this video, I install this product.
