Join us as we delve into the rich tapestry of Nigerian art, exploring the major art movements from the pre-colonial era to the present day. This video highlights the key artists, themes, and styles that have shaped Nigerian art, and how they have responded to the social and political changes in the country.
We begin with Peju Alatise, a renowned artist, poet, and writer, who made history by exhibiting her art at the 57th Venice Biennale. We then move on to Yinka Shonibare MBE, a contemporary artist who incorporates elements of European fine art with various mediums to communicate themes of race, identity, and British colonialism.
The journey continues with Ben Enwonwu, a leading figure in contemporary African art, known for his celebrated depiction of the Yoruba deity "The Queen Amina of Zazzau." We also explore the work of Njideka Akinyili Crosby, whose artistic practice centers on painting and photo collage, and Ade Adekola, who has embraced digital art, incorporating photography, interactive art, and installations into his work.

The journey continues with Yisa Akinbolaji, a painter and printmaker who uses a unique technique of layering and scraping paint to create vibrant and expressive artwork. We also explore the work of **Damola Ayegbayo, a painter and illustrator who creates colorful and whimsical artworks that celebrate African culture and beauty.
We also feature Bruce Onobrakpeya, a renowned icon in Nigerian art, celebrated for his expertise in printmaking, and Marcia Kure, whose art delves into subjects of gender, identity, and authority.
