Light of the Sahel | How Ghana and Burkina Faso Are Building a Future Together
There is a sound that nations make when they decide to build their own future. In early 2026, that sound echoed across 1,400 kilometers of West African terrain.
From Takoradi, Ghana to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, a convoy of massive engines moved north—not carrying weapons or aid, but carrying something more powerful: the ability for a nation to light its own homes.
This is not charity. This is partnership.
⚡ ENERGY: Emirati firm Mark Cables is investing $215 million in a 200 MW thermal plant at Kossodo, increasing Burkina's capacity by 50%. Mammoet transported 325-ton engines across 1,400km, lifting over 1,000 power lines along the way.
📱 DIGITAL: November 2025 – Ghana and Burkina signed a Free Roaming Agreement. From April 2026, no roaming charges between the two countries. Calls, texts, data work like at home.
📚 EDUCATION: January 2026 – Teacher exchange programme announced. Ghanaian teachers to Burkina for English. Burkinabè teachers to Ghana for French. University access for Burkinabè students at capped fees.
🛣️ LOGISTICS: November 2024 – CBC and Ghana Shippers' Authority signed protocol to eliminate harassment on transit corridors. October 2025 – GPHA delegation met in Ouagadougou to address operator concerns.
🇬🇭🇧🇫 THE LEADERS: President Mahama visited Captain Traoré in March 2025. His message: "When your neighbour's house is on fire, you help him quench it." Since then, trust has grown into tangible results.
This is the Africa being built—together.
