The Annapoorna chain was started in the early 1960s by K. Dhamodarasamy Naidu as a catering unit in Kennedy movie theater in R. S. Puram, Coimbatore. Later a coffee house was set up and run by Naidu and his three brothers K. Rangaswamy Naidu, K. Ramaswamy Naidu and K. Lakshmanan.In 1968, they opened a vegetarian restaurant under the name "Sree Annapoorna".The company is currently led by chairman, K. Rammaswamy Naidu.

"More than a hotel, Annapoorna has been established as an identity of Coimbatore today".I have travelled all around the world and I tasted coffee at different places."Coffee is my passion".Wherever I have gone the taste of the coffee differs from place to place,but only in Annapoorna the taste of the coffee has been the same over the generations.

Annapoorna Damodarasawamy Naidu was working in a mill,he was a very ordinary person.He could have continued there,but he took the risk and gave up the job,and started this in a small way.Paul Vincent is the one who owned a theatre and brought cinema to coimbatore in those days,we opened up a small petty shop in front of that theatre.We offered tea,coffer and snacks in the best quality.The results of our efforts were encouraging.
On the balance scale if you place the hard-work of four brothers,it would stand even and uniform.There will be no difference between the efforts that each of them had put in.This unity in the family has been the pillar of growth and prosperity of Annapoorna.

One of the significant achievements they have made is, making Coimbatore synonyms to Annapoorna,and Annapoorna synonyms to Coimbatore !
