Stent restenosis is a condition in which the inside of a previously placed stent narrows or becomes blocked again after initial treatment. This can occur after a stent is placed in a blood vessel to treat a narrowing or blockage, such as in the case of coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease.

Stent restenosis can occur because the blood vessel reacts to the foreign body of the stent, leading to the growth of tissue within the stent that narrows the vessel. Other factors that can contribute to stent restenosis include poor blood flow in the area, disease progression, and the accumulation of plaque within the stent.

The symptoms of stent restenosis depend on the stent's location and the narrowing's severity. In some cases, individuals may not experience any symptoms, while in others, they may experience chest pain, shortness of breath, leg pain, or changes in heart rhythm.

Treatment options for stent restenosis include repeat angioplasty with or without stenting, atherectomy (removal of plaque), or bypass surgery. The choice of treatment will depend on the location and severity of the stenosis, as well as the individual's overall health. Individuals with stent restenosis need to work closely with their doctor to determine the best course of action and to ensure proper monitoring and follow-up care.
